Timothy Walker will present two one-hour talks, with a light lunch served between them.
Our Study Day offers a fascinating opportunity to explore the world of plants from two compelling perspectives. The first talk examines the long and distinguished tradition of botanical illustration and asks why it remains so highly valued today. The second looks at the medicinal power of plants and their continuing importance in modern medicine.

Timothy Walker read Botany at University College, Oxford. After graduation, he trained at Oxford Botanic Garden, the Savill Garden, Windsor, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. In 1985 he was awarded the Master of Horticulture by the Royal Horticultural Society. From 1988 to 2014 he was Director, Horti Praefectus, of Oxford Botanic Garden. Between 1992 and 2000, the Oxford Botanic Garden and Harcourt Arboretum won four gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show in London. In 2009 the Botanic Garden was awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize. Timothy is a lecturer, broadcaster and writer, and is well known for his engaging talks on plants, gardens and their place in our lives.
