ARTS VOLUNTEERING 2022

MARCH/APRIL 2022

We ran a project with Chichester Festival Theatre, liaising with the Educational Projects Manager. Over the two months children from 7 schools had fascinating backstage tours at the theatre, learning about the costumes, props, sets, and production. At a later date a member of the theatre staff visited the schools for further workshops in which the children took part enthusiastically.

MAY 2022

In May we visited the Moncrieff-Bray Gallery for their Summer Exhibition with Yr 5 pupils from Bury Primary School. They sketched and discussed the many works of art and were then asked to talk about their favourite piece. They were ably guided by our resident Art Educator Maureen Wells who went back to school with them, where they produced some stunning paintings.

JUNE/JULY 2022

In the early summer we collaborated again with the Chichester Festival Theatre on a project in Chichester‘s Festival of Culture. We funded 2 art teachers to go into several schools to make Willow Lanterns with the pupils. These were shown off in a huge parade through Chichester on June 10th. Some 2000 children from Primary Schools in the Chichester Area took part - it was heralded as a great success. In July, as part of the Petworth Festival Fete, we ran a lantern decorating workshop which was very popular with both children and adults!

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2022

After the wonderful Susi Beale Sculpture Project last year, we have used the skills of Jon Edgar our resident sculptor again, on a similar project entitled - Heads Up. He is visiting Duncton Junior School and Billingshurst Primary, where the children are making life sized heads to celebrate someone who has played a key role in their community, particularly during the pandemic. We were able to support these 2 schools, following a successful application to the Arts Society’s Patricia Fay Fund. Richard has also very kindly agreed that this year’s Susi Beale Award can be used to fund a third school, Wisborough Green Primary.
